WHY YOGA?

I cannot do handstands and I cannot do the splits.

I have never been to an Ashram and I have never been to India.

Why do I practice Yoga?

The very ordinary answer to this question is that ‚practicing Yoga simply makes me feel good‘. My body feels toned, flexible and agile and my mind feels calm, steady and at ease, my energy is more balanced and my soul feels taken care of.

Yoga is a self care practice. When I take good care of myself, I can fill up my own love vessel and be a more loving presence in this world.

And what I also really like about Yoga is that the experience does not end on the mat. I can take those wonderful teachings into my daily life and they sometimes help me to navigate challenging situations more skilfully and gracefully. And I always find it fascinating when modern research and science nods to what those Indian dudes have been talking about for thousands of years.

My wish is that you get to experience the wonderful benefits of Yoga in your life, too.

The popular perception of yoga is that it is an exercise practice to develop physical strength and flexibility. In fact, it is a holistic collection of practices designed to bring your whole being, body, mind and spirit, into balance.

Yoga is not about creating beautiful poses, but the poses are just a setting for us to practice paying attention. In a world that is so focused on ‘looking good’ and ‘getting it right’, we use our yoga practice to focus on ‘what feels good’ and ‘what feels right’.

Yoga sculpt

Starting around 40, women can loose 1% muscle mass per year, which can lead up to 30% strength loss by the age of 50-70.

Strength training helps counteract this loss by building or maintaining muscle mass, improving strength and enhancing overall body composition.

Starting a strength training routine can feel intimidating.

In yoga sculpt we ease into this journey by adding (light) weights to familiar poses. We exercise in a small, non-judgemental group.

Please bring your own weights (0.5kg - 2kg) and a yoga mat.

Testimonials

It exceeded my expectations - got more out of it than I expected and it became a highlight of my week. I still cant touch my toes (!) but realised that doesn't actually matter.  Learning how to relax and switch off became more important - a benefit I didn't anticipate.

The yoga beginners class exceeded my expectations.  There was no judgement to do expert poses, it was totally relaxing and a great stress reliever where I could focus on me, on my mental and physical health.  Highly recommend this class.

Helen.

I love my tuesday evenings as I feel both invigorated & relaxed after the class... a fantastic way to enjoy"me time" & lower stress levels. Nicole has a wonderful, calm, gentle manner about her & leads the class with intelligence, interest & care.
